LO QUE NO VEMOS

Anoche nos hablaba un amigo del perro guía de su hermano, que es ciego.  Nos contaba cómo llegó este Labrador, Jack, desde los EE.UU, donde fue entrenado para acompañar a su nuevo dueño.  Jack ha sido más que los ojos de este invidente.  Ha sido también un fiel amigo para toda la familia.  Ahora que está enfermo, la ONCE le ha reemplazado por un perro guía joven, pero dándole la opción a la familia de quedarse con Jack, cosa que han hecho encantados.

De esta historia me han conmovido varias cosas:

1. la generosidad de la ONCE, que se hace cargo de la educación de todos los ciegos, proporcionándoles perros guía si lo solicitan.  No sé si hay excepciones a esta regla o si hay listas de espera, supongo que sí, pero en todo caso es gratis para la familia

2. la generosidad de los voluntarios que entrenan gratis durante un año a estos perros, acostumbrándoles a acompañar a su dueño 24 horas al día, hagan éstos lo que hagan.  Al cabo del año, estos voluntarios se separan de estos perros para que puedan ser de utilidad a los que no pueden ver.  Separarse de un perro tan amable y fiel no debe de ser nada fácil. 

3.el agradecimiento de la familia, que sigue acogiendo al perro que en términos prácticos ya no es útil para su hijo, y al que acojen en su enfermedad.

Nos olvidamos fácilmente de las dificultades por las que atreviesa la gente, incluso las que tenemos cerca.  Afortunadamente, suele haber organizaciones que no sólo no olvidan, sino que lo hacen su razón de ser.
